Paragraph about hurricane Katrina-Social Studies-14/11/18

An extreme storm with very strong winds and heavy rainfall may be a hurricane. Usually hurricanes occur when the temperature of the ocean is very warm(26.5 degrees celsius down to 50 metres). There are lots of reasons why hurricanes are dangerous, for example, they can bring storm surge and storm tides and heavy rainfall that can lead to flooding. People's homes and businesses either get damaged or destroyed. More importantly people lost their lives.

Hornby High Heist-Art-27/8/18

My task in Art is to pretend like my lino-cut has been stolen and I have to describe it to you all.

DESCRIPTION
It is a selfie lino-cut print of myself, it is a full face print of me facing forwards. I am wearing my hair out. I was smiling and you would've been able to see my teeth but I didn't cut them I just cut out a big oval in instead. The filter I used made it look like is was wearing glasses and I had circular ears. The print is the size of an A4 piece of paper. My head takes up most of the middle of the paper. On the top half of the background it has black and white stripes and on the bottom half it is just plain white. I cut around the outside of everything and I used cross-hatching around my eyes and in my hair.

ANALYSIS
In my print it looks as it is half black and half white. But overall there is more black because my hair and face are black.

What I learnt about Japan today-Home Ec-28/8/18

What I learnt about Japan:I have learnt that they used to ferment their fish and rice, that they like to make their dishes look very nice and pretty.

How does the presentation from the Japanese compare to how NZ present it:The presentation is different to NZ because they put different things on different plates and we put all of the food on one plate each, we don't care how it looks and they care very much about the presentation.

Questions for the readers to answer:
1) What sort of rice do they use to make sushi?
2) How do they ferment the rice?
3) What are 3 types of rice used in Japan?

My Story
As a young woman living in London in 1847, it was disgusting, it was dirty and there were diseases going around everywhere. I have just recently lost some of my closest friends to a disease called Scarlet fever, I just hope I didn’t catch it off of them. The other day I was reading in the paper about a far away land, New Zealand. I heard people saying that there is a boat heading there in a couple of days and I’m thinking of buying a ticket.

So I’m on the boat now, I've been on here for about 10 minutes and I already feel sick. I feel like I’m going to vomit everywhere, this is not going to be a good trip. The only thing good about it is looking out onto the ocean and watching the dolphins jumping around, it is beautiful. I’m walking into my room and I see that there are two bunk beds in it and I realise that I’m sharing a little, cramped room with three other people. I put all one of my bags on my bed and decide to take a nap. I’m going to stop writing now but i’ll start again when I get to New Zealand.

Ok so I’m at New Zealand now and it is nothing like I had expected. It’s so different from London, there aren’t even any buildings or many people. I’m so happy to start my life again.

Persuasive writing-English-24/8/18

Sportsmen/women should not get paid to play sport.

  • It’s their job so they should
  • They spend all of their time doing it
  • They will stop playing it

I believe that sports people should get paid for playing a sport especially if you are famous because of it. Like it's their job therefore they should get paid for it, there is no reason for the rest of us to get paid for doing our jobs if they aren't.

For example actors like Jennifer Lawrence or Brad Pitt they are getting paid to entertain us right? So how is that any different from what the all blacks or the silver ferns are doing, don’t they entertain you?

If you stop paying them they will eventually stop playing and then we won’t get to watch the sport, no one will be playing it because they want to get paid for it. Athletes spend all of their time either playing or training for whatever sport they play, so don’t you think that if they put so much time, money and effort into it they should be getting paid.

Persuasive writing-English-20/8/18

Scientists should not be allowed to test drugs, chemicals or cosmetics
on animals.

  • It’s torture to animals
  • It could kill them
  • They could end up with diseases
  • The animals don’t want to do it

Honestly I think that people shouldn't be testing things on animals because
it’s basically torture and animal abuse. Do you think they want to be tested
on? No.

For example testing new chemicals is very dangerous it can make them sick,
give them diseases or even kill them! Like I get why we are testing them on
animals, it’s so we don’t kill any humans, but still it’s unfair on them.

English-My curiosity Topic-22/6/18

Does everyone have a Doppelganger?

What I found from the website I found out that the chances of finding two people with eight of the exact same facial metric traits were less than one in a trillion. Which means, though it’s statistically almost impossible to find someone who is an exact match in terms of facial measurements, there’s a far higher likelihood of finding two people who look identical at first glance. So, while Sara and Shannon may not be exact physical replicas, they’re similar enough to be mistaken for twins.

My curiosity question-English-31/6/18

I wonder why do we have daylight savings?

From the website Why do we have daylight savings?, I found out that DST(daylight saving time) is a seasonal time change measure where clocks are set ahead of standard time during part of the year, usually by 1 hour. As DST starts, the Sun rises and sets later, on the clock, than the day before.
DST is now used in over 70 countries worldwide and affects over 1 billion people every year.
